today's featured quote;

think about it........

"The Supreme Court ruling regarding unregistered works is significant in many ways. How can the law say that copyright protection subsists in all tangible fixations of creativity and then turn around and say but you can't protect those rights in federal court until you have a certificate?"

"It all boils down to fair compensation and growth potential for all stakeholders like you and me.  This is about now and our future.  Can we really afford to let Pandora’s box open again like what happened on the Internet?"

             short takes

Global Data Revenue Inc. (GDRI) founded in 2011 is merging with DataRevenue.Org which was founded in 2008 for the purpose of establishing accountability and fair compensation for activities on emerging peer2peer mobile multimedia messaging systems (MMS).

In August of 2007, producers at a digital media start up were looking for ways to reach the mobile community with music and videos formatted for mobile networks.  In 2007 there were severe limits on multimedia that would go through mobile networks mobile2mobile (MMS) so the producers had to create with that in mind (before 2007 MMS was limited to "picture messaging").  These creations were converted to multimedia data files that enabled them to be shared on MMS mobile networks, peer2peer.

It is important to understand that ANY content can be converted to an MMS version.  For example, a 30 second ringtone in the popular mp3 format can be converted to an MMS version in under 15 seconds.

When it became apparent that there were no systems in place to account for and compensate the peer2peer sharing of MMS, Max Davis an early pioneer of MMS content founded DataRevenue.Org and began advocating for legislation in this area.

DataRevenue.Org submitted petitions for rulemaking to the FCC and CRB in 2008 to begin addressing these MMS issues.  Solicitations were made to members of the Senate and House judiciary committees to introduce legislation as well.  Eventually, the Executive Branch was brought into the loop as well as other government agencies like the NTIA, WTB and Department of Commerce.

When it became apparent that legislation would not be the fastest way to get this done, DataRevenue.Org turned to soliciting the wireless carriers for co-operation in these areas for the good of the whole.  It is our belief that MMS on mobile networks will easily go the way that peer2peer file-sharing via the Internet went if nothing is done soon to prevent this.

When it became apparent that the wireless carriers were not listening or taking proactive
measures to establish accountability and fair
compensation for creators - we sued them.

Our approach provides a win, win, win situation for consumers, the wireless carriers and copyright industries.  Please read - The DataRevenue.Org Doctrine

There are many ways to help us get this done.  The highest priority today is to raise money for our legal fund and administration as we back our members in their fight for fair compensation.
